The Dos And Don’ts of Filing a Grievance

The Dos And Don’ts of Filing a Grievance

It may seem like there’s a lot that goes into filing a property tax grievance, but the process can be easier than you realize. Especially if you keep up with the dos and don’ts of filing a grievance. However, if you’re still unsure about how it all works, we are always here to help.

Remember These Dos and Don’t While Filing a Grievance:

Do keep in mind that as a homeowner, you are entitled to file a Property Tax Grievance. This is a process that involves a formal complaint against the assessed value of your property.

Don’t forget to do some research. It helps to take a look at similar homes to yours or your neighbor’s and see what their taxes look like. This way, you can better understand the market value of your home and make more sense of your property taxes.

Do make note of the filing periods for your area of residence.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions, that’s what we’re here for! You can give our office a call at 484-0654 so we can answer any questions or concerns you may have as we enter the new filing period.

Do be patient. The grievance process is a long one and it could take around 18 months from beginning to end. However, regardless of when your case is finalized, the results will always be retroactive to the beginning of the tax year for which you filed your property tax grievance.

Don’t fret if your request is turned down. This will not cause an increase in your taxes and there are no penalties just for trying. You can apply again next year.

Do apply now! It comes at no extra cost to you and there is no charge for unsuccessful cases.

Don’t miss your deadline. It’s important to keep up with your area’s specific deadlines. Filing time is once a year, so don’t miss out.
